Educational Background

Mr. Barkas completed his degree at the Medical School of the University of Ioannina in 2010. In 2020 he obtained his specialty title in Internal Medicine and completed his PhD thesis entitled "Association of classic and newer risk factors with the incidence of cardiovascular disease in patients with dyslipidemia", enhancing his knowledge in cardiovascular prevention and lipid disorders. In the same year, he obtained his Master's Degree in Applied Dietetics - Nutrition from Harokopion University, expanding his specialization in nutrition and the management of metabolic disorders.

Retraining & Awards

In 2022-2023, Mr. Barkas completed his postgraduate training as a Visiting Researcher and Honorary Research Associate at the Department of Primary Care & Public Health, Imperial College London, UK, under the provision of Professor Kausik Ray, focusing on cardiovascular prevention, lipidology and diabetes. Since then he continues his collaboration as a Research Associate in the same department and also in the Clinical Trials Unit of Imperial College London. In the same period, he completed the EAS Young Fellows Program 2022/2023, a prominent European initiative for young leaders in atherosclerosis. In 2023, he was recognized for his contribution to the management and research of obesity in Greece with the award of the National SCOPE Fellowship .
